Control, Clear Desks, and Clean Files
Jan 02, 2026Listing worries and categorizing them as controllable versus uncontrollable using journaling. Organization as oxygen for anxious minds.
I've started a new practice: writing down everything I'm worried about, then drawing a line down the middle of the page.
Left side: things I can control.
Right side: things I can't.
The left side gets my energy. The right side gets released.
It sounds simple because it is. But simple isn't the same as easy. The hard part is being honest about which column things belong in.
My boss's mood? Right side.
My response to my boss's mood? Left side.
The economy? Right side.
My spending habits? Left side.
Whether someone texts me back? Right side.
Whether I reach out in the first place? Left side.
A clear desk isn't about aesthetics. Clean files aren't about being Type A. They're about creating space for a mind that races. Organization is oxygen for anxious brains.
When my environment is chaotic, my thoughts follow. When my systems are clear, my thinking sharpens.
Today's practice: Write your worries. Sort them. Then focus your energy on the left side only.
