Broken Sleds and Sparkling Slots

Dec 30, 2025

A snowmobile breaking down becomes a meditation on trust and letting go.

The snowmobile broke down three miles from camp. Middle of nowhere. Cold setting in.

My first instinct: panic. Fix it. Push it. Force it. Make something happen.

But some things can't be forced. Some situations require you to stop, assess, and trust.

I couldn't repair the engine. I couldn't make the parts appear. What I could do was stay calm, conserve energy, and wait for help that was already on its way.

Sometimes the broken sled isn't the problem. The problem is our reaction to the broken sled.

Later that same trip, I watched the sunset sparkle across fresh snow. The most beautiful thing I'd seen in months. And I almost missed it because I was still replaying the breakdown in my head.

Two experiences. Same day. One taught me that some things break and you can't fix them. The other taught me that beauty is everywhere if you stop long enough to see it.

Broken sleds happen. Sparkling moments happen too. The climb is learning which one to focus on.
